![]() ![]() One of the few things I collect and truly cherish. I'm fortunate to own pretty much everything SOM as produced in Advanced or Super Advanced. Most are available on the secondary market, but as a testament to the game popularity, the command some pretty hefty prices. One legitimate argument against SOM is the lack of card sets available. The game handles all the esoteric rules and stats, and in this mode, I can play a game in 20 minutes or less. I enjoy playing the computer version, turning off all the gimmicks, like animation, and using manual dice input, which keeps the tabletop feel. ![]() While not perfect, SOM offers the smoothest game play, and most importantly, FEELS like real baseball to me. The outliers that can't be represented well by a 50/50 system (which are actually pretty rare, maybe one or two cards per season) can be easily corrected with a house rule if they bother you that much. SOM's Super Advanced has one of the best stealing system of any game I've seen. As other poster mentioned, it's all one card BEFORE you roll the dice, and the statistical results bares out its accuracy. Personally, I have no problem with the 50/50 system, and stats bare out the accuracy of this game design. ![]() The essence of baseball is lefty/righty matchups, IMO, and no other game handles this aspect of the game better than SOM. While I've played many different games (APBA, Replay, Inside Pitch, Pursue the Pennant), I always return to Strat-O-Matic. ![]()
